To begin with, I think this unit was a challenge in a way where all the different projects and tasks where completely diverse. I got to experiment with being in a group of 5 setting up our exhibition, engage with an editorial task both contextually and visually and also going around Norwich by myself trying to find a story from the real world to tell.

If I had to define a turning point or an eye opener, it would definitely be the editorial task. This task represents a challenge I overcame and where I had so much fun researching and learning new information. Since the subject is something very unknown to me, I got to really engage with it in a way I never actually did before as I always try to choose a matter that I feel comfortable with. Going to London alone for a day in a “research mission” was such a scary but adventurous decision where my initiative and will to go prevailed. This trip was really valuable both for my research and personal growing as an active thinker.

Project 4 represented the most challenging project of the unit for me since I’m not used to document stories from the real world. Fact was definitely out of my comfort zone and that made this project more satisfying to engage with where I started to really get into my subject and stating to see development and progress.

Reflecting on the unit in terms of support by lectures, workshops and tutorials I have to admit Matthew’s lectures are really interesting by joining a range of different mediums and artists making the lectures appealing to everyone in the room. Also I find that both Graham’s and Gareth’s guest lectures were absolutely amazing since I’m not that interested in both collage and reportage on architectural matters, I find that in a way, they led me to get into these “trains of thought” that eventually got me to deal with decision making within the current projects at the time. In addition, the lectures on the practise in the real world (The AOI lecture as an example) were great in terms of delivery of valuable information for the future.

Rounding up, I’d like to balance a few things that worked in this unit and may work and the future and also a few points where I could’ve taken another road. Mind mapping and “word equations” proved to be a crucial part of gathering research and understand my next steps, it helped me get a sense of editing and a simpler decision making in every situation. Something that I need to improve is being too precious about my image making and that most of times creates a wall between me and my image making. This is something I need to work on, to learn how to detach from the visuals and increase its’ production.

To sum up this unit, I’d like to say that I enjoyed its’ diversity and range of different ways to approach storytelling being it fiction or fact. It taught me better ways to research and really engage with my interests and future, using my practise as a form to approach and really think about what matters to me and why does it matter. Making me a more dynamic and eager thinker.
